4Sight: The 44-day Depression Challenge
Consensual non-consent to improve my quality of lifeI, depressed person, hereby gather the courage to give permission to my chosen sponsor to coax me into the appropriate desirable behavior for the next 44 days so that I may begin to overcome my depression. My sponsor agrees to not engage in any abusive behavior - physical, verbal, emotional, mental / psychological or otherwise - while assisting me in my plight to overcome years of undesirable thought patterns. Nonetheless, I agree to - daily - let them use whatever motivational tactics they may conjure up within reason so that I may execute the needed constructive behavior, paramount of which includes my nutritional intake, physical exercise, external activities, self-care, online usage and, last, but not least - and perhaps most importantly - to share all my thoughts with the specific intent of challenging negative assertions that may be inaccurate if not completely untrue. The ultimate goal is to change the momentum of my negative-reinforcing regimen for a long enough period of time to enable long-term behavioral improvement, notwithstanding that I may engage in a subsequent and preferably contiguous period of adjustment if so needed and/or desired.
In order to support this agreement I consent to the potential non-consent as I may try to renege on my commitment in the next 44 days or otherwise try to make my compliance difficult. However, in the end I know that change is needed and that I have been unable to effect that change on my own. Hence, entering into this program. In line with that I am defining four measurable items that demonstrate my depression with the notion that improvement in any and all of them will help me to convince myself that my brain is lying to me and, therefore, allowing me to draw conclusions which are misleading, leading to inaction (when desirable) or action (when undesirable) in the areas noted.
