An organization's emotional wellness is tied to the collective mental well-being of all its employees. So the questions then becomes, is it possible to achieve mental well-being without the “mental health care dilemma”? Hard to say. We don't see a lot of coordinated success in this area. What is easy to say, however, is that this issue has a dramatic impact on business in the United States today.
Intermittent anxiety and depression challenges - or as 4Sight likes to better describe, self-esteem and self-confidence issues - plague business employees and wind up costing the U.S. billions of dollars each year in lost productivity. Whether you know it or not, presenteeism (defined below) is taking a toll on your company. There are plenty of employees right at this moment that are not working up to par because they are mentally taxed. That may be the result of personal issues or because of something related to work and/or their peers. Regardless, they are not performing as they normally do and their output will be reduced. This doesn't even take into account potential quality issues.
But don't take my word for it. Here are just some of the articles that highlight the pervasiveness of this topic:
26% of employees will have a diagnosable mental health issue for any given year
A mental-health challenge can strike deeply at a family’s financial well-being.
America’s Highest Healthcare Cost in 2016? Over $200 billion for things like anxiety and depression
4Sight has assembled a series of presentations and workshops around a new approach to looking at how people think and what drives their behavior. While rooted and influenced in sound psychological principles and evidence-based treatment methodologies, 4Sight removes the stigma associated with traditional therapeutic routes and gives people an accessible, self-help approach to dealing with the conflict in their lives. More importantly, organizations that take a top-down approach to integrating such a program can reap enormous rewards in the area of productivity alone. Arguably, creativity will also be unleashed and quality will improve as well.
I know about this for good reason. For more than 20 years I have been developing business applications. Since very early on I performed the role of project manager as well as software architect. And in that role I've had unparalleled success which I didn't even realize at first. But, over time, I came to learn that the fact I was meeting deliverables was feat enough. Add in that my projects were within or under the time frame allotted as well is within or under budget, and you could see why many of my peers and bosses were astonished by my output.
What I've been able to do beyond that is take all I've learned and combine it with a human behavior construct to create 4Sight. 4Sight is the algorithm I followed to learn what drove a person's behavior and, more importantly, what I needed to do to accommodate them so they could shine in their role. I always took the tact that I was more interested in being successful than being right. If a team member needed some help, I figured out what needed to be done so they could accomplish their goal. Blame was seldom a part of my effort. Most of the time it was "what do we need to do?". This is what 4Sight is all about. Manage the conflict and move ahead.
